Whitetail Research started as a dream back in early 2020. From the beginning, the goal has been to uncover what GPS collar studies might be missing—through the lens of a thermal drone.
I believe there's a time and place for both GPS and drone-based research, but ultimately, drone observation offers a more revealing and immediate look into real-time behavior.
Since 2024, I've been using a thermal drone to study whitetail deer, documenting over 150 data variables per day. My work primarily focuses on individual subjects—most often, mature bucks. In my opinion, they’re some of the most fascinating creatures in nature.
Most wildlife behaves according to predictable and repeatable patterns. But mature bucks? They have been shown to display individual characteristics. Some are highly sedentary. Others are volatile and unpredictable. Some are homebodies that rarely leave a tight core area, while others never seem to stop traveling. My goal is to bring those individual behavioral traits to light—traits that GPS collars alone may never reveal.
Through my YouTube channel, I aim to share this research in a family-friendly, humorous, and highly educational way (with the occasional jab at fellow bowhunters, of course).
I'll continue to push the boundaries of behavioral research, always striving to deliver fresh insights and new discussion points—in the most digestible way possible.
